Visited Bonotsu, where Sidotti stayed for two nights while being escorted from Yakushima to Nagasaki.

Bonotsu is the place where the ship carrying Sidotti from Yakushima arrived on November 30, 1708. Old documents say that Sidotti was kept in a bamboo and wood fence enclosure at Tsuruzaki Nakajima in Bonotsu.

When we visited there to check out the place once again, we found it to be as quiet as before, but it was a shame that the ruins of the mansion, which had flourished during the smuggling trade era, had fallen into disrepair without anyone looking after them.

We once again realized that historic buildings would disappear if they are not properly preserved.
