On the day of the coldest weather of the year, heavy rain and wind threatened to hold the event, but at the request of the participants, we decided to go on a village eco tour in Koshima. This was the final activity of the Kagoshima Prefecture-commissioned project, “Project to disseminate and raise awareness of Sidotti's achievements in spreading Western culture.''

The participants were a mixed group of seven travelers from Chiba, Saitama, Osaka, and Tanegashima, and four residents of Yakushima, and were truly diverse in age, with the youngest being 8 years old and the oldest being 72 years old.

When the rain and wind were bad, we used the indoors of the community center and Catholic Yakushima Church, and we also had to travel by car for some parts of the tour, but fortunately the weather became calm at the tour point and we were able to complete all the courses safely.

We received happy comments such as “Thank you for your consideration during the bad weather,'' “I was able to see how much you care for the village,'' and “The harshness of Yakushima's nature and the warmth of the people left a great impression on me.''
