On Saturday, when the sun was warm even though it was winter, we held an eco-tour for second-year students at Gakunan Junior High School in the center of Koshima. There were 18 students and 3 teachers who took two periods of class to participate in the local study. It was impressive to see them enthusiastically taking notes.
Many of the students were learning about Sidotti for the first time, and they left comments such as “It was a lot of fun,'' “The scenery was nice,'' “I learned about history that I didn't know about,'' and “It was interesting.''
As part of the tour, we received special permission to take the students inside Yakushima Sidotti Memorial Catholic Church, and many of the students saw it for the first time, so it seemed like it was a good opportunity to experience Western culture.
